Notes

Creative Scale-Up was a new initiative designed to empower artistic/creative businesses in the Greater Manchester region, which is more important than ever before in a post-COVID world. It allows local creatives to mix business skills into their artistic work so they can turn their passion into a career.

The short film features an eclectic mix of artists from all over the city, including photographers, international drag queens, graffiti artists, and VR game designers. Each artist was filmed on location in their place of work, with lighting designed to enhance the looks of each location and to complement the artist's disciplines, personality, and personal story.

I chose to shoot on the Red Scarlet-W system for a softer, more film-like look to the image, with lots of creative control in post. A cinematic quality was achieved through camera movement, lighting design, and the Cooke Anamorphic lenses. The resulting images are soulful, beautiful, and authentic - enhanced because of the subtle imperfections in the anamorphic glass - hopefully the perfect compliment to our creative partners and their exceptional work.
