Live studio sessions were created in collaboration with various labels, bands, musicians, and studio engineers. Each project presented unique creative and technical challenges, including lighting design, camera blocking, and live broadcasting, all while ensuring the final recording and recording process remained unaffected.
We developed a consistent house style for the project, working within a creative framework that allowed for subtle variations in look, color, and feel tailored to each artist and brand.
My primary role was leading a small team in lighting the set. Depending on the session, the number of musicians ranged from a single performer to as many as twelve, spread across three different rooms in Studio-A.
As a team, we created a camera plan, rehearsed, and shot live. We used Sony FS7 cameras for their balance of cost and quality, as well as their suitable outputs for live streaming. The visuals were mixed live alongside the audio for seamless production.
Circulon
Circulon launched a new cookware range with the help of MasterChef’s Marcus Wareing. Using the C-Series Pans, the celebrity chef hosted a live cookalong via Zoom, attended by prominent food influencers, members of the press, and retail buyers.
We used two ground cameras on tripods and an overhead camera mounted above the kitchen counter to capture the action on the stove. Lighting was designed with large overhead sources positioned to the right of the master wide shot, supplemented by smaller lights on either side of the kitchen.
The live show was mixed in real-time by a director and editor, incorporating questions, feedback, and results from the Zoom audience into the broadcast.
UEFA / PlayStation
Working with the Manchester agencies Ear to the Ground and Anattic, I was brought on to light and shoot live streams for Sony during the UEFA Champions League Final in Paris in 2022 and the 2023 buildup in Manchester.
The live streams featured high-profile footballers and influencers competing in FIFA, discussing match results, participating in challenges, and reacting to live draws as part of the 2023 buildup.
The Paris shoot involved five cameras placed throughout the "PlayStation House," most of which were operated, with one fixed camera overlooking the courtyard of the Hotel Rue d’Aumale. Additional filming took place at the Stade de France after the final.
The Manchester shoot, set in a redbrick loft, utilized three cameras with an off-camera challenge area. The set was filmed in two lighting states—day and night—with adjustments made between streams to match the changing conditions.
