Notes

When Archie (director) approached me about shooting his local coming of adventure, I was drawn to the script through the loveable two rouges, who are the main characters played by Calum and Gilbert. The story is a classic tale with deep roots in the borough of Leigh. With my documentary background, I felt comfortable bringing the world to life -authentically and respectfully.

We shot entirely on location up in Scotland with a minimal crew, lighting and camera package. The camera work attempted to balance being playful, adding comedic punch while respectfully allowing action to play out naturally where appropriate. To help with this, we blocked multiple shots into single shots using reflections, focus and movement to avoid cutting away and creating an improvisational quality. Lighting was primarily natural - practicals, bounce and neg fill where appropriate and small fixtures used sparingly.

While shot digital, the film was colour timed under a Kodak film LUT with grain, halation, vignetting, and another analogue by-product added to create a soft, organic, film-like image to compliment the traditional story.
