We spent a day with Kei, navigating the vibrant streets of Tokyo, knowing we needed to stay agile. To capture the energy and intimacy of this profile piece, I built a compact camera package featuring the Sony FX6 paired with Cooke SP3 lenses. Cooke lenses are my go-to for their ability to beautifully render faces, and for a story so rooted in Kei's personal journey, they were perfect for helping the audience connect with him on a deeper level. The SP3s, with their Panchro classic DNA, effortlessly complemented the street photography aesthetic that James (the director) and I envisioned.

To enhance this look, I used gentle 1/16 and 1/8 diffusion filters, amplifying the vintage, tactile, and organic qualities of the image. While Tokyo is synonymous with cutting-edge visuals, we aimed for something more analogue—an aesthetic inspired by skateboard culture and photographers like Ed Templeton. This approach allowed us to reflect the raw, creative spirit of Tokyo’s football culture, a stark contrast to the polished football scene often associated with the UK.
