Live studio sessions were created in collaboration with a series of labels, bands, musicians, and studio engineers. Each project brought up a series of creative and technical hurdles, such as lighting design, camera blocking, and live broadcast, all without impacting the final recording and the recording process.
We created house style over the project and stayed moved under that creative umbrella with subtle shifts in look, colour and feel depending on the artist and brand.
My priority is to lead a small team in lighting the set. Musician numbers can be as few as one, and at the most twelve, spread through three different rooms in
Studio-A.
We develop a camera plan as a team, rehearse, and shoot live. Our cameras were Sony FS7s chosen for cost vs quality and the applicable outputs for live streaming. The images are mixed live with the sound.
Circulon
Circulon launched a new cookware range with the help of MasterChef’s Marcus Wareing. Using the C-Series Pans, the celebrity chef presented a ‘cookalong’ via zoom, attended by leading food influencers, press and retail buyers.
We had two ground cameras on tripods alongside an overhead camera mounted above the kitchen counter to capture the action on the stove. We lit using large overhead sources to the right of the master wide, augmenting with smaller lights on either side of the kitchen.
The show was mixed live by a director and editor, and using a Zoom link, mixed questions, feedback, and results into the live show.
UEFA / Playstation
With the Manchester agencies Ear to the Ground and Anattic I was brought into light and shoot lives streams for Sony in and around the UEFA Champions League final from Paris in 2022 and build up in 2023 in Manchester.
The live streams feature high-profile footballers and influences competing in FIFA while discussing results, taking part in challenges, or watching live draws from the 2023 build-up.
The Paris shoot had five cameras throughout the ‘Playstation house’ - most were operated, but one was a plant looking down into the courtyard of the Hotel Rue D’Aumale. Further filming after the final took place at the Stade de France.
The Manchester shoot, shot in a redbrick loft, relied on three cameras with an off-camera challenge area. The set was shot in two states - day and night - with an adjustment for lighting in between the streams.
