In early 2023, Milton Keynes City Council approached me to make a short film about the popular hymn Amazing Grace, which was celebrating its 259 anniversary. The hymn was written just outside Milton Keynes, in the quiet village of Olney.

Under the team's direction at the Cowper & Newton Museum, I supported the documentary process - shooting most of the footage with live content from local filmmaker Simon Beckett. Social media interviews, sermons, and events filled in the parts of the project I was too late to capture or unavailable for.

I created a simple, two-camera interview style with a central composition for the A Camera (FX 6) and an off-angle, high composition for the B Camera (FX 3). Being responsible for camera, lighting, sound, and interlocuter duties, I realised I had taken on a little too much, but I kept making every effort to keep the production quality high, despite flying solo on the entire project. With the support of the local team, I was able to piece together a diasporic collection of characters and stories from the year’s events framed through artistic compositions.
